40 Days for Life starts today on Ash Wednesday. For the next 40 days our city will participate in a huge pro life mobilization. This is nationwide campaign focused on prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil, and community outreach in an effort to end abortion in our community as well as nationwide.
Of course one of our major tenets at The Sparrow’s Nest is that we value all life no matter what situation that life was conceived. We value both the life of the unborn child but the life of the mother. To steal a quote from Bridget Van Means, President of Thrive St. Louis “We have chosen to walk away from the controversy and walk hand and hand with the mother and child.”
One of the most positive statues of the 40 Days For Life campaign is it’s absolute focus on peace. This campaign puts every outcome in the hands of the Father. The prayer and fasting is to focus on His power, His plan , and His timing. The peaceful vigils are not organized to be in your face demonstrations but to put aside our emotional confusion and anger at this act of violence toward women. These vigils are public acts of obedience of recognizing God’s grace and mercy in every situation. The community outreach is to educate the public to hopefully end these horrendous acts but to also extend a healing hand to those women who may have endured abortion and to share the love of Jesus.
