Walk This Way

Aerosmith - Steven_Tyler

What’s your favorite walking song? You know, a song that has lyrics that talk about walking? What about “I would walk 500 miles…” by The Proclaimers. “These Boots Are Made for Walking” by Nancy Sinatra? “I’m walkin'” by Fats Domino? Everybody is good for “Walk Like An Egyptian” by the Bangles. And I totally date myself by admitting I still love to scream out “Walk This Way” by Aerosmith.

But I struggle with walking. I’m a runner. Not a fast runner but I still love to run. Even when I’m suppose to walk, if I’m injured or something, it’s all I can do not to run even a little bit. I like to move fast. But sometimes you miss out on so much when you’re moving to fast.

Sometimes when I feel the Holy Spirit touch me it literally sends chills up and down my spine. That happened today. Right in the middle of telling yet another person about The Sparrow’s Nest. I was talking fast about what we are doing, and what we hope to do next year, and plans for fundraisers for next year, and hiring staff, and we’ll do this, and we’ll talk to them, and we’ll partner with them , and, and, and,

And then God said “I want you to walk just putting one foot in front of the other and walk in step with Me.”

“Sure, God, like speed walking, you mean? Like really pumping and driving it across the finish line??? Because if I go much slower I’m worried this is all going to fall apart.”

No, I want you to walk one foot in front of the other and walk in step with Me.”

“But, God, the urgency, the intensity, the focus will be lost.I’m worried if I slow down this won’t happen!”

I want you to walk one foot in front of the other in step with Me. Listen to the scripture I have made so important to you.”

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[a]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Matthew 6:25-34

What else is there to say, but “yes, Lord.”

WOW ME Wednesdays!

via Flickr”]Being human is a full time job it means being...

I love a good party! My completely extroverted self loves to fill a room with as many different people as possible and move in and out of fascinating conversations, crazy stories, and hysterical jokes. Voices mingled together connecting, laughing, and dreaming recharges my soul. So that’s why it should come as no surprise that we are already planning our anniversary party for 11/12/11!

I have this concept of filling the entire St. Charles Coffee House with our volunteers and supporters and surrounding them with inspiring music, unique pieces of artwork, and of course lovely coffee and my favorite DONUTS among other tasty sundries.

Our theme will be “BEAUTY IN FLIGHT” to represent our tremendous journey of learning how to make a start up non-profit fly.

So today on WOW ME Wednesdays share with me how you have seen beauty lately. Has it been painful to watch, did you recognize it as beauty, why was it beautiful to you?

“Life is full of beauty. Notice it. Notice the bumble bee, the small child, and the smiling faces. Smell the rain, and feel the wind. Live your life to the fullest potential, and fight for your dreams.”Ashley Smith

Wow Me Wednesdays

Every day is such a new day for us at The Sparrow’s Nest. Every day is a chance to learn about who we want to be and how we want to get there. We see each day almost as a young child, every experience, every opportunity builds some synapse or connection in our proverbial brain.

We have some very fun and exciting activities coming up this year. But everything needs a name! As a start up we have a chance to explore some new roads and ideas. We can really use the creativity in all of  us granted by the Holy Spirit.

Which brings me to Wow Me Wednesdays. Each Wednesday from now on we’ll give you a chance to wow us with your wisdom and wit. So let’s play a new game today. Let’s brainstorm every possible fun, innovative, creative use of this bird analogy.Titles, songs, scripture, quotes, anything goes today.  If we use part or all of you ideas on any of the projects this year we’ll give you a  FREE Sparrow’s Nest t-shirt!

Here’s a few to get you going:
